Since 1834, the East Tennessee Historical Society has been helping us hold on to our unique heritage—recording the events, collecting the artifacts, and saving the stories that comprise the history we all share. The historical society pursues its educational mission through publications, lectures, conferences, school programs, teacher and student education, exhibits, and heritage programs such as the popular First Families of Tennessee and the new Civil War Families of Tennessee. Headquartered in the East Tennessee History Center in downtown Knoxville, ETHS operates the award-winning Museum of East Tennessee History, featuring the signature exhibition, Voices of the Land:The People of East Tennessee and changing feature exhibitions that explore a variety of subjects. The East Tennessee Historical Society is a regional organization with 45 affiliate chapters. Join now and become part of a growing effort to preserve the region's history.
