The British are Coming: The War for America, Lexington to Princeton, 1775- 1777

Join the East Tennessee Historical Society as we welcome back the Pulitzer Prize winning author, Rick Atkinson, for a special lecture and books singing of his new book The British are Coming: The War for America, Lexington to Princeton, 1775-1777. Volume One of The Revolution Trilogy recounts the first 21 months of America’s violent war for independence. From the battles at Lexington and Concord in spring 1775 to those at Trenton and Princeton in winter of 1776-1777, American militiamen and then the ragged Continental Army take on the world’s most formidable fighting force. It tells the grand story of who we are as a country, where we came from as a people, and what we believe in as a nation.

“Extensive research…allows Atkinson to recreate the past like few other popular historians…A superlative treatment of the period.”—Publishers Weekly (starred review)

“The British are Coming is the extraordinary first volume of Atkinson’s greatly anticipated Revolution Trilogy; a new series about the American Revolution.

Remarkable in its breadth and depth, and conveyed with trademark elegance, it tells the grand story of who we are as a country, where we came from as a people, and what we believe in as a nation.

The story recounts the first 21 months of America’s violent war for independence. Full of riveting details and untold stories, The British are Comin is a tale of heroes and knaves, of sacrifice and blunder, of redemption and profound suffering. The story is also told from the British perspective, making the mortal conflict between the redcoats and the rebels all the more compelling.”
