TAMIS Tales from the Vault

Tennessee Archive of Moving Image and Sound
Event Location:
East Tennessee History Center
When:
Friday, October 18, 2019 - 7:00pm to 8:30pm

Join the Knox County Public Library’s Tennessee Archive of Moving Image and Sound as we present a look back at a year’s worth of archiving, with a screening of recent film acquisitions, collaborations, restorations and more!

Our year in review will feature clips from:
• Historic home movies of state judge William Wayne Oliver from
the 1930s, including footage of the Oliver family cabin in
Cades Cove
• Downtown Santa Claus Parades in the 1940s
• A 1945 live action Snow White film made in Knoxville
• Opening of the Oak Ridge Gates in 1949
• Bob Hope’s 1953 visit to Knoxville
• Apollo 7 splashdown and recovery
• Home movies shot by a G.I. in France and Germany in the days
following World War II
• Other films from near and far with East Tennessee connections

You’ll also see TAMIS footage that was included in nationally broadcast television shows:
• Ken Burns’ Country Music series
• ESPN’s history of SEC football
• PBS’ documentary on the Hatfield and McCoy feud

We’ll spotlight grants we’ve received and collaborations with:
• The University of Tennessee
• The Goethe Institut
• The Knoxville History Project
• Central Cinema
• The Beck Center
• Carpetbag Theatre
• International Home Movie Day
• The Tennessee Theatre
• The East Tennessee Historical Society

It’s been an exciting year at TAMIS and we want to show you what we’ve been working on, so come on out to this FREE event, Friday, October 18, 7 p.m. at the East Tennessee History Center.
